How Everything Began

Torio is the kind of place you don’t simply pass through. Reaching it takes intention — along winding roads, through lush jungle, to a Pacific coastline that still feels beautifully untouched.

For a Swiss family of world travelers and nature lovers with an eye for thoughtful design, that sense of discovery was exactly what made Torio special. A place with space to breathe, to reconnect, and to experience nature more deeply.



What began as a wild piece of land overlooking Torio Bay gradually became Sunhi-Vista — a boutique eco-resort shaped by its surroundings, where architecture, wellbeing, and nature come together in a natural and considered way.

How It Began

Torio is remote in the way that demands intention — narrow roads, dense jungle pressing against the Pacific, a coastline still largely untouched.

For a Swiss family of tech entrepreneurs, world travelers, and nature lovers with a refined design sense, this remoteness was precisely the draw. Not a retreat from the world, but a deeper encounter with it.

What began as a piece of land — dense, wild, overlooking Torio Bay — has evolved into Sunhi-Vista: a boutique eco-resort where wellness, architecture, and nature don't just coexist. They converge.

Design Philosophy

Where Nature Meets Design

Our design language is rooted in a dialogue between architecture and nature. Clean lines and thoughtful craftsmanship create calm, functional spaces that blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.

Natural materials such as wood and stone are paired with lush tropical planting, creating a vibrant connection between indoors and out. Rich shades of green, wild vegetation, and sweeping ocean views become part of the experience, allowing the beauty of Panama to take center stage.

Veraguas Province stretches from Panama's central mountains to its Pacific coastline, forming one of the country's most biodiverse corridors. Torio sits along this coast — a small town where fishing boats rest on volcanic sand and howler monkeys call from the canopy.

The Malena Beach Conservation Association, just minutes from our gate, protects nesting sea turtles. The surrounding jungle is home to sloths, toucans, and hundreds of species found nowhere else on earth.

This is not Panama's tourist trail. This is its wild heart.

Sustainability

Treading Lightly

Building in the jungle is a privilege and a responsibility. From the first sketch, our approach has been minimally invasive — working with the land rather than against it.

We use locally sourced and sustainable materials wherever possible. Our lodges are designed for natural cooling to minimize energy use. We support the local community through employment, sourcing, and partnership with conservation organizations.

Sunhi-Vista is not an eco-resort because of a label. It's an eco-resort because of how we think about every decision.

Our People

Rooted Hospitality

Sunhi-Vista is small by design. With a maximum of 25 guests, our team knows your name, your coffee order, your preferred surf break.

Our staff are from Torio and the surrounding communities. They are the ones who know where the howler monkeys gather at dawn, which waterfall pool is warmest after rain, and how to prepare ceviche exactly the way their grandmothers taught them.

The Name

선희 — The Meaning of Sunhi

Sunhi is a Korean name composed of two characters: 善 (goodness, virtue, harmony) and 喜 (joy, happiness). It speaks to a way of being in the world that is both gentle and radiant.

Vista — a view, an outlook, a perspective.

Together, Sunhi Vista is an invitation to see the world through the lens of goodness and joy. To find harmony between the built and the wild, the intentional and the free. Every decision we make — from the angle of a window to the curve of a trail — is guided by this meaning.
